Linkedin.com is a Social Networking group for proffessional business people. No this is NOT a chat board. Instead it is a place to connect you and the professionals you know to other professionals and the professions they know. So you are looking for a plumber, you can log into linkedin.com and search plumber and it will give you a list of plumbers in your network. Needless to say if they have been invited to join by someone you know they in some way have been referred by that person, you might want to give them a call. Like wise when someone is looking for your area of expertise and they are in your network chain your name might pop up as a referral as well. In addition you can write and receise recomendations from Clients, Past Clients, Employers, Co-workers and other business owners etc. As you can see the list is endless.
